I spent the day yesterday helping my friend, Nick, paint a rustic building on his riverside property. Nick had invited me to his house to help me prepare for my trip to Peru before I went–he’s been there 15 times–and then he offered to write an introductory email to the incredible shaman I worked with while I was there. I was so grateful.
It felt so good to give something back. It was hard work, but it was fun, too. In the process, I got to know Nick a lot better, and we grew even closer. For his part, Nick was amazed that anyone would offer the help he needed to complete one of several projects he has undertaken. I know my gesture touched his heart.
Isn’t that the way the new world comes into existence? Isn’t it through the small acts of mutual recognition, support, and assistance. Isn’t it through building new relationships that expand our community. Isn’t it through opening our hearts to each other and sharing more immediately and personally in each other’s lives.
I’m pretty sure I’ll help Nick out again next week…and that he’ll do anything he can for me again any time he can. I believe that’s how it should work.
I found your blog through the “circle of life” tag.
I read several of your posts, and I enjoyed all of them very much!
I liked the energy here so I will be back to visit.
